BLOG

5th September 2017.

It's been a mixed summer, with some varied gigs. Some new bands and people to work with (some that I have tried working with previously, but never came off), and some new projects.
It was good to finally get to work with Sophie Garner and Vernon Lewis. Vernon first made contact with me a couple of years ago, but it has taken a while to get a dep date sorted.

Sophie seems to attract a lot of responses to her facebook posts when she needs a dep, so there always seems to be a lot of competition. It was good to be invited on the gig, and a welcome chance to catch up with guitarist Alastair Ballentyne, after he moved away from my home area to work in London. He was with my Kate Bush band briefly, and can be heard on the track 'Wow', featured on this web site.

It was great to be working with Darren Alboni again with the Simply red band. Rehearsal was also a great time, staying with David Gornal in his luxurious converted barn, where we also rehearsed. Best rehearsal room ever! The gig was a good turnout at Lingfield Park, where the weather held out, giving warm sunshine until the sun went down. I didn't win on the horses, though.

A trip to Scotland (well border) went well with Vernon Lewis and E-Maculate. An overnight stay in a lovely B&B, with our own fully equipped lounge made the usual caravans look very tatty in comparison. A lovely sea view was made even better by being able to watch dolphins jumping around just out to sea in the morning.

A new dep offer came up just before leaving for Scotland, which needed an audition video doing. Upon returning, this was done and sent off. Response was really favourable, so I was offered the gig straight away. Really looking forward to this one. 8 days away in Russia with a Pink Floyd tribute band! After checking them out on you tube, they seem to be one of, if not the best tributes to Pink Floyd. Looks like I may be learning a set while on holiday in Florida next month.

Next things coming up are a couple of gigs with Dale (formerly with Rox Electra). These will be in Milton Keynes and Leicester at the Bistro Live venues. I have played at Milton Keynes venue before with 'Shades'. While this gig went well, I have unpleasant memories of crashing my BMW on the way back, causing it to be totally written off. Hitting a patch of standing water while in cruise control is not recommended!
It's going to be a busy week, as straight after Milton Keynes, I start the show 'Singing In The Rain' at Melton Mowbray first thing Sunday morning. The show will continue through until Saturday, where there are two showings, then I have a gig with Them Heavy People on the Sunday.

More songs to be learnt and transcribed now.

Next blog may come direct from Russia.
